Meet Amy
Pragmatic Professional and Community Enthusiast
Amy Zimmerman is a passionate program manager and community enthusiast who believes giving back to her community is a way of life. As a management consultant with over 15 years of experience leading multimillion-dollar initiatives across financial services, utilities, and healthcare technology, Amy brings both corporate expertise and entrepreneurial insights as the spouse of a small business owner.
Amy's interest in local politics grew when facilitating San Jose's participatory budgeting exercise - a pivotal moment in seeing how local politics affects people's lives and working with residents from all backgrounds to express their values through the city's budget.
She currently serves on Brookfield's Parks & Recreation Commission, with whom she worked on the 2024 renovation to Brookfield’s Wirth Park Tot Lot. The new playground features inclusive play features, soft surfacing, fencing, picnic area, and a planned accessible restroom. Both the inclusive and accessible design and the funding model for this project were firsts for the city!
Amy also supports numerous other community groups:
Mentoring Girl Scouts going for their Silver & Gold Awards (and also received the council’s Thanks Badge in 2024, for sustained mission-delivery volunteerism)
Graduating from the Waukesha County Sheriff's Department’s Citizen Academy
Serving Marquette University Alumni Association, National Board of Directors (including as President) and Young Alumni Association Board
Developing professional education programming with the Project Management Institute’s Milwaukee chapter (including creating a peer mentoring & development program)
Leading UU Church West’s Holistic Study Committee and teaching religious education
Supporting the children of fallen US service members as a camp counselor for the inaugural Camp Hometown Heroes
Rooted in Wisconsin
Amy moved to Wisconsin nearly 20 years ago, and fell in love with the kind and welcoming people, the beautiful outdoors, and the rich history of the Wisconsin Idea. Amy and her husband enjoyed their first date in Wauwatosa and greatly miss the neighborhood gem Rosebud Theater.
She lives in Brookfield with her husband, a former teacher & small business owner, and their two young sons and Springer Spaniel. Her hobbies include gardening, golf, and sewing.
